Ready to hear this week's rundown of all things adtech, marketplaces,
and retail media?

Hello to the marvelous marketplace experts and advertising connoisseurs!!

Ready to hear this week's rundown of all things adtech, marketplaces, and retail media? Mic check! One two! One two! We are good to go!

What’s the latest:

  • Goodwill finds its place in the marketplace 😉 The iconic non-profit organization and the original reseller Goodwill just launched its second marketplace GoodwillFinds.com in the US. While resale platforms like Poshmark, letgo, and thredUP have very strong user bases, Goodwill with its 120-year-old brand and more than 3,000 stores across the US and Canada will be a serious competitor. The new marketplace has more than 100,000 unique items right now and is predicted to scale at least 1 million by the end of 2024 (RetailTouchpoints)
  • The Quick Commerce race is heating up 🍿 Rapid delivery industry that boomed during the pandemic is seeing a lot of changes recently. Istanbul-based delivery startup Getir is in talks to buy its Berlin-based competitor Gorillas. SoftBank-backed delivery juggernaut GoPuff is planning to end its operations in Spain to focus on the UK. Carrefour Brasil Group and Cornershop by Uber launched a 15-minute delivery service in São Paulo. 🍏🛍️
  • No more GDPR for UK businesses? 🤔 “We will be replacing GDPR with our own business- and consumer-friendly British data protection system," announced Michelle Donelan, the British Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport. The new system is promised to be simpler and clearer for businesses to navigate. I wonder if the "simpler" will mean less privacy-centric than the GDPR (Reuters)
  • Retail media gold rush continues in the UK 💰Morrisons became the latest UK grocer to launch their native media network. The goal of the recently revealed Morrisons Media Group is to help the supermarket's brands advertise on Morrisons’ platforms. The top 3 UK grocers Asda, Sainsbury, and Tesco already have their own retail media networks. (The Drum)

Stats to impress your friends:

  • Adobe forecasts the US online holiday sales to hit $209.7 billion 🎄
  • Retail Media represents 11% of global ad spending and is forecasted to grow to 60% by 2027 📈
  • The biggest gold nugget ever found, the Welcome Stranger, weighed over 78 kg 🤯
